Mark Teixeira was born on April 11, 1980, in Annapolis, Maryland.His mother, Margy, was a school teacher. His father, John (known as “Tex” to his friends), was a former Navy officer who worked as a manager for an aerospace firm. The family resided in Severna Park, an upper middle-class suburb of Baltimore bounded by the Magothy and Severn rivers in Anne Arundel County.
Baseball was part of the culture of the Teixeira family. Margy’s brothers had been good players, as had her father. Tex starred for Navy in college, and his brother, Pete, played at Florida State and then for several years in the Atlanta Braves organization.
Margy and Tex dressed their son in baseball uniforms as an infant and toddler, and gave him a glove when he was one. By his fourth birthday, he was hitting, fielding and throwing with ease and confidence. A year later, he had made up his mind about what he wanted to be when he grew up: He was going to be a major leaguer.
Mark was a perfectionist. He demanded more of himself than his parents did—which is saying something, considering their backgrounds. Blessed with a sharp mind and a strong body, he maximized his performance in the classroom and on the athletic field, tirelessly studying and practicing, and excelling at virtually everything he tried.
Mark lived in an area where the spring sport of choice is lacrosse, not baseball. Of course, the Orioles played nearby, so he was hardly alone in rooting for Cal Ripken, Jr. Mark was also an Eddie Murray fan. In fact, the Baltimore first sacker was his inspiration as a switch-hitter.
Mark’s favorite player, however, was Don Mattingly, the All-Star first baseman for the Yankees. He has worn number 23 in his honor ever since.

On January 21, 2011, Ramirez agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, while the Rays also signed his former Boston Red Sox teammate Johnny Damon in a package deal suggested by agent Scott Boras.
The 38-year-old Ramirez cut short his tenure with Tampa Bay and in major league baseball on April 8, 2011, after just five games during which he batted .059 (1-for-17), when he abruptly retired.Ramirez reportedly tested positive for a banned performance-enhancing drug in his spring training drug test. His first sample, or A sample, was retested and again returned a positive result. Ramirez filed a notice to appeal, and a second sample, or B sample, was tested under observation by Ramirez' representatives. When the B sample also tested positive, he dropped the appeal and told the MLB that he would immediately retire.
Major League Baseball issued a statement that Ramirez had been informed of an issue under the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment program, and chose to retire rather than continue with the appeal process.Ramirez was facing a 100-game suspension, which will still apply if he chooses to return to Major League Baseball at any point in the future. Neither Ramirez nor the player's association issued a statement about the sudden retirement. Ramirez apparently did not personally inform the Rays about his decision. The team announced that they had been informed of his retirement by the MLB commissioner's office.

Derek Sanderson Jeter ( born June 26, 1974) is an American baseball shortstop who has played 17 years in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees. A twelve-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion, Jeter's clubhouse presence, on-field leadership, hitting ability, and baserunning have made him a central figure of the franchise during the Yankees' success of the 1990s and 2000s. Due to his impact on the team, he has served as the Yankees' team captain since 2003. He is regarded as a consummate professional by teammates and opponents alike, and has a reputation as a reliable contributor in the postseason.
Jeter was drafted out of high school by the Yankees organization in 1992, and he debuted in the Major Leagues in 1995. The following year, he became the Yankees' starting shortstop and won the Rookie of the Year Award. In addition, Jeter's achievements include four Silver Slugger Awards, five Gold Glove awards, All-Star Game MVP Award, World Series MVP Award, and membership in the 3,000 hit club.

Jeter's play earned him recognition as the shortstop selection on the All-Tournament Team.
Jeter started at shortstop for Team USA in the 2009 World Baseball Classic as well.
